Create Festival returned for its 24th year in Ashford’s beautiful Victoria Park, headlined by indie legends The Lightning Seeds. The free one-day event hosted four live stages, local street food, children’s rides and entertainment, interactive theatre, complemented by offerings from our new neighbours, Curious Brewery.
The festival, organised by Ashford Borough Council, started from very small beginnings, hosting community music ‘rock shops’ where young people formed a band and showcased their wears in the park. Fast-forward twenty odd years, Create has remained committed to developing new local musical talent, performing alongside headliners such as Adam Ant, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Dodgy, and Nizlopi.
We are also proud that Create Platform has now reached its 3rd birthday. Initially starting with a few fringe events, Create Platform is now a week-long programme, packed full of new commissions and activities in places you might not expect.
Think DJ Sets by Huey Morgan (6 Music) and Terry Hall (The Specials) in a Grade I listed Church; poet Luke Wright in a craft beer brewery; and a spoof version of ‘JAWS’ outside a cinema.
